Audi Paon 2030 Concept

Designed by Lucia Lee – now exterior designer at Audi – The Audi Konzept Paon is a modern reinterpretation of the iconic quattro with a sleek, aggressive design.

The Paon Concept is characterized by a body created as a “thin sculpture” that covers and puts into evidence the car’s mechanical parts.

The extensive design research done led to the key sketch, featuring fenders with negative surfaces connected with the air intakes.

The overall layout, with the four fenders/shoulders that appear to be extending from the central body is inspired by flying squirrels, and helps emphasize and exaggerate the quattro – all wheel drive system of the car, which is equipped with four in-wheel electric motors.

The side view is characterized by strong symmetrical effect, another trademark design element of Audis since the original TT. Other sources of inspiration include the R8 for its functional design and the Prologue Concept for the sharp design language.

The exterior also features a textured roof with a triangular pattern which along with other elements of the design, took inspiration from the Ex Machina sci-fi movie.

The two-seat cockpit is accessed through large butterfly/scissor doors. The car features an autonomous mode and a manual, race-focused driving mode.

The project, sponsored by Audi, was developed in 2016 by Lucia Lee as her Master Thesis at Pforzheim University. She is now working as exterior designer at Audi.
