Israeli newspaper Haaretz has published an interesting article on industrial designer Alex Padwa, who expresses his bold visions on design.

Alex Padwa was born in Tel Aviv in 1956 and is one of Israel’s most prominent industrial designers, as well as a controversial figure who likes to express his ideas in a very open and unrestrained way.

The interview/article titled “The Israeli Designer Who Hates Israeli Design” and published last week by Israeli newspaper Haaretz gives an overview of his work and reports some of his personal observations on design.

In his view, one of the goals of designers is to “do justice to internal organs”, showing the beauty of their efficiency and functioning.

During his career Padwa has ventured several times into the transportation design: among his past works are the interior design of the 1988 Citroën Activa concept car as well as a more recent concept created for Harley Davidson in collaboration with Davidi Gilad.

Below we report a talk he gave in 2016 at the Shenkar Talks 2016 event, where Padwa gives some insights on the design of an iconic 3D paper printer for Highcon (above picture) and the ideas behind the aesthetics of an unmanned lunar vehicle for Israeli Group Space IL’s project presented at the Google X Prize competition (also in the second video).
